Hemoglobin
Hi my wife is 27 week pregnant.
This is our second pregnancy.
We got her CBC done today and the Hemoglobin is 8.8 and Total RBC is 3.72.
Previous CBC was done in 19th week, the Hemoglobin was 9.9 and Total RBC was 4.05.
From 19th week onwards she started taking Tab Lupiheme. Was not taking iron tab before 19th week due to constipation.
Is the current result of CBC concerning. What shall we do. Getting worried.

She is 27 weeks pregnant.
I suggest she should take Intravenous Iron Infusion. Otherwise the time is running out and she may need blood transfusion during delivery.
Please consult your Gynaecologist in this regard.

Continue taking iron tablet..repeat cbc after 3 weeks..
You have 9-10 weeks to use oral iron...
If oral iron is not tolerable,can take iron injection ..

Your Hb was low from the start. Oral iron supplementation is first line management. However if not tolerated due to side effects, can consider injectable iron.

Anemia is common in pregnancy and as pregnancy progress HB reduses.. she needs suppliments to correct it .. contact for more advices through out pregnancy

Get an HPLC done. Repeat Hb after 3 weeks. If still below 9, we can plan for iron injection. Feel free to call me for consultation
