Insulin is very safe in pregnancy. The dose depends upon the sugar levels. Usually , its the post food level which rises in gestational diabetes and it may in a small number of cases require insulin if dietary changes and metformin tablets are not helping to bring it under control.  Your blood sugar readings are required to comment on the dose and frequency of insulin injections.
