A detailed clinical and diagnostic work up should first establish the diagnosis of gynecomastia and should differentiate it from related medical disorders such as pseudo gynecomastia. Sometimes underlying medical conditions with disorders of hormones could be the reason of such abnormal growth of the breast. Therefore, it is advisable to conduct routine investigations including relevant hormonal profiles. Further a mammography test will help elucidate the nature of breast growth and highlight the pathology and therefore guide the treatment plan. Medical therapy is likely beneficial if implemented early before fibrous tissue replaces glandular tissue, whereas surgery can be performed at any time.
