Could be just extrinsic staining on teeth or else a bonded retainer if its on the inner surface of teeth ,since you mentioned you are unable to see.. Please visit dentist to get it checked clinically.

1. Schedule a Routine Dental Check-up: Visit a dentist or an orthodontist for a professional clinical examination. They can easily verify if it is an intact retainer or if it requires attention. 2. Get a Professional Scaling (Cleaning): If the "stain" is actually tartar or external staining accumulated around the wire over the years, a professional dental cleaning will safely remove it. 3. Evaluate Retainer Integrity: The dentist will check if the retainer is still securely bonded to all teeth. If it has partially detached or if it is no longer needed, they can repair, replace, or safely remove it. 4. Maintain Diligent Oral Hygiene: Continue to clean thoroughly around the area using interdental brushes or floss threaders specifically designed to navigate under fixed retainer wires.
