Its difficult to gauge this process and its unpredictable. No, normally functional GB doesn't have sludge. it has bile, not the sludge.  It develops when the gall-bladder functions are altered.

GB sludge is beginning stage. The duration may vary from months to years depending on many unknown factors. Diet and lifestyle changes can prevent or DECREASE progress of stone formation. PANCREATITIS occurs when any small stone passes in to the CBD and obstructs it. This cannot be predicted. And there is no time estimation for it.
