Hi, at this age, fruit juice should be limited. Taking larger amounts can reduce appetite and make the child prefer juice over water and regular food, and it does not provide balanced calories and nutrients.
It is better to encourage whole fruits instead of juice and gradually reduce the quantity of juice. Try offering water frequently in small amounts.
For a 3.5-year-old child, drinking around 300 ml of fruit juice daily is more than recommended and can reduce their interest in plain water. As per pediatric guidelines, fruit juice intake should be limited to about 100–120 ml per day for this age group, and it’s better if it’s not given daily. Excess juice (even fresh like watermelon) can lead to high sugar intake, poor appetite for regular meals, and less habit of drinking water. It’s best to encourage whole fruits instead of juice, gradually dilute the juice with water, and slowly reduce the quantity so the child develops a habit of drinking plain water.
