Hb is mildly low and many children have iron deficiency. Frontal bossing alone doesn’t confirm thalassemia. Since child is active and not severely anemic, major thalassemia is unlikely. Do Hb electrophoresis once to rule out trait and check iron levels.

Greetings Thalassemia symptoms in children often include pale skin, fatigue, slow growth, and bone changes like frontal bossing. A hemoglobin level of 10.3 g/dL in a 3-year-old is slightly below the typical range of 11.0 to 14.0 g/dL. Frontal bossing can occur in severe anemias like thalassemia major due to the expansion of bone marrow. Hemoglobin electrophoresis is a standard diagnostic test used to identify and quantify different types of hemoglobin.
