Therefore, in the absence of any current exposure, vaccination is not required now. However, if there is any future exposure (such as a bite or scratch), the patient should be managed as an unvaccinated individual and must receive the full post-exposure prophylaxis regimen, including all recommended doses of anti-rabies vaccine and, if indicated, rabies immunoglobulin. If the full vaccination course had been completed earlier, only two booster doses (Day 0 and Day 3) would have been sufficient for any subsequent exposure.
