Get the child a good check up. Any moderate symptoms require examination to rule out serious or smouldering infections. He may require medication for relief of his symptoms.

Greetings To support his recovery, focus on offering a teaspoon of honey before bed to coat his throat and calm his nighttime coughing fits. Keep him thoroughly hydrated by encouraging warm fluids like clear broths, warm water, or decaffeinated tea, which can thin out the thick mucus. Use over-the-counter saline nasal drops or sprays to loosen the thick discharge in his nasal passages, allowing him to breathe much easier. Additionally, placing a cool-mist humidifier near his bed or having him sit in a steamy bathroom will add much-needed moisture to clear his congestion.

Most commonly this appears to be a viral upper respiratory infection/common cold. Continue saline nasal drops, steam/warm fluids and ensure good hydration. Honey 1 tsp at bedtime may help with cough (as child is >1 year). Paracetamol can be given if fever/discomfort occurs. Please monitor for fast breathing, wheezing, persistent high fever, poor feeding or unusual sleepiness. If symptoms worsen or persist beyond 5–7 days, kindly get him examined in person.
