Fetal Brain Ventricles Size 9.5mm&9.7mm
My wife is 25 weeks pregnant and we have done the TIFFA scan. In the TIFFA scan, the fetal lateral ventricles measured 8.3 mm and 8.5 mm. Two weeks later, we had a follow‑up ultrasound with a fetal medicine specialist, and the lateral ventricles measured 9.5 mm and 9.7 mm. We also did the TORCH test and all results were negative. We have consulted a couple of doctors for their opinion, and they are advising that it is “better to take a decision and terminate the pregnancy.”What should we do in this situation? Should we continue the pregnancy or terminate it? What complications might we face if we decide to continue? What is the worst‑case range for the size of the ventricles? Should we undergo any additional scans or tests? Apart from this finding, everything else appears normal.

Ventriculomegaly is defined if size is more than 10 mm. This comes under normal range although on higher side. You can get neurosonogram and follow up scans every 4 weeks for size. You can get NIPT test for screening of down’s syndrome. Based on the information, termination of pregnancy is not advised and consult fetal medicine specialist. 10-12 mm is mild, 13-15 mm moderate Severity is when size is more than 15 mm.
