Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me. Thank you for explaining your symptoms in detail. I understand how distressing it can be to feel breathless and unsatisfied with breathing, especially when it has been going on for a month and is affecting your sleep and peace of mind. Based on what you have described, your symptoms are most consistent with a combination of gastric reflux related breathing discomfort and anxiety related air hunger, rather than a primary lung or heart problem. How these symptoms are connected • Long standing gas, bloating, and constipation can cause stomach distension • This pushes upward against the diaphragm and creates a pressure sensation below the chest, sometimes rising toward the throat • Acid reflux or gastritis can cause chest tightness, throat discomfort, and a frequent urge to take deep breaths • When this continues, it triggers anxiety, which further worsens the feeling of not getting enough air • Symptoms often worsen when lying down, which strongly points toward reflux and gastric causes Importantly, this pattern is very common and treatable, and it does not suggest lung damage or heart disease based on your description. What you should do now • Eat small frequent meals and avoid overeating • Avoid spicy, oily, fried foods, tea, coffee, chocolate, and late night meals • Do not lie down immediately after eating • Elevate the head end of the bed slightly while sleeping • Maintain good hydration and regular bowel habits • Practice slow breathing exercises to calm the breathing pattern • Avoid repeatedly forcing deep breaths, as this worsens the sensation When to consult a doctor immediately • If breathlessness occurs even at rest and worsens rapidly • If there is chest pain radiating to arm or jaw • If there is wheezing, cough with blood, or fever • If you experience fainting, severe weakness, or blue discoloration of lips If symptoms persist, a proper evaluation may include basic blood tests, ECG, chest assessment, and targeted gastric treatment, along with short term support for anxiety if needed. Please remember that online guidance has limitations. A one to one consultation allows proper assessment, reassurance, and a clear treatment plan, which often brings significant relief in such cases. For personalised one to one consultation on this issue or long term management, you can reach out to me directly on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven. A detailed discussion will help you feel better and regain confidence in your breathing. Wishing you comfort, calm breathing, and good health.
