Patient underwent L4-L5 spinal fusion on December 13, 2023. Post-operatively developed severe complications including 20-pound weight loss, anorexia, and severe constipation requiring eight hospitalizations over two years. December 2025 hospitalization at Mayo Clinic lasted 30 days for uncontrolled pain and diagnostic evaluation. Anal manometry revealed sphincter weakness with reduced muscle tone. Current working diagnosis suggests neurogenic etiology causing pelvic floor dysfunction, possibly related to surgical nerve involvement. Pain remains poorly controlled, significantly impacting nutritional intake. Patient requires ongoing multidisciplinary evaluation including neurology, colorectal surgery, and pain management to determine definitive cause and establish effective treatment plan for suspected post-surgical neurological complications.

But yes, the procedure you underwent is usually relatively safe, but it was a bad experience that your patient is suffering from surgical complications now.
