Family History of Autoimmune Disorders –
I am a 38-year-old male. My mother (74 years) was diagnosed with myositis dermatitis 3 years ago, and my sister (36 years) was diagnosed with Takayasu arteritis 8 years ago. Given this family history of autoimmune conditions, should I consider undergoing preventive screening for autoimmune diseases? Right now i have no symptoms but L4-L5 herinared disc issue(May be not related to that). Are there specific tests or markers I should check in advance to either detect early signs or reduce the risk/intensity of such conditions in the future? Looking forward to expert advice. Thank you.

Hi. There is no preventive screening for Autoimmune disease advisable for you in the absense of symptoms specific for the same. If you develop symptoms like Joint pains, morning stiffness, skin rash, unexplained fever, muscle weakness, spine stiffness etc you need to consult a rheumatologist At max along with the annual routine health checks can get a CRP level done Keep a healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking, be physically active, sleep adequately, incorporate fruits and vegetables in diet, avoid refined carbs. That's the general advice we can suggest
