Excess Folic Acid or Folate Pregnancy
I am 7 months pregnant. Does excess folic acid intake effect the foteus during the pregnancy ? Do we need to check folic acid and B12 levels in blood during pregnancy ? How much folic acid will be absorbed by the body when you take 5 mg folic acid tablet ? Does the additional folic acid washed away from your body ?

A pregnant lady only needs 400 microgram of FA but that preparation is not available in market. 5 mg doesn't harm anyone. Excess is not absorbed. At 7 months of pregnancy, you don't need FA. You need iron and calcium.

No. excess folic acid doesn't harm the baby and it's get excreted in the urine. If your hemoglobin is normal then no need to do folic acid levels in the blood.

Why are you so concerned about folic acid excess or toxicity? Folic acid a type of vitamin B complex and it is water soluble vitamin which if at all excess can be excreted by our kidney. Absorption I can’t predict but recommended dose of folic acid in pregnancy is 5 mg . So don’t worry and follow your gynecologist advice and trust her expertise and knowledge please . All the very best for a safe delivery and motherhood
