Elderly Parent Injury to leg
Elderly parent (90) in independent living, bumped leg and now has huge hematoma and has also become delirious, now wants to sleep all the time, not feeding self. nothing has happened in the brain and no UTI. In rehab now - can she recover mentally/physically.

If all the other reasons for her delirium are ruled out, rare possibilities are increasing blood urea levels due to resorption of hematoma, increased ammonia levels due constipation, etc. In general, elderly people have slightly lower than normal cognition, hence are extremely prone to develop delirium with even mild stress, infection or hospitalisation. They do recover but rather slowly once the inciting event settles
