I am going through the treatment for tmj disorder and I have an overbite problem. When I massage i.e. circular motion on my jaw muscles below my ear i feel pain from my jaw area. Is massaging harmful for me? And how do know whether my treatment for tmj disorder (splint therapy and orthodontic treatment) is working for me or not?

Hello sir, slight pain while you're undergoing treatment for TMJ disorder is common but since your feeling it while massaging you don't have to worry about it. If you're having too much pain or discomfort while normal opening and closing I would advise you to visit your dentist and get it checked.

Hello
Mild pain during a splint and orthodontist treatment is quite normal.
If the pain is intolerable you are advised to visit your dentist from whom you are taking the treatment.
Massaging is not harmful but donot massage with lot of force.
You will not be able to know weather the treatment is working. A clinical checkup is recommended for the same
Next Steps
visit your dentist if pain is beyond control
Health Tips
do salt water gaurgle 4-5 times in a day.
Incase of too much pain you can use ice packs for temporary relief
Slight discomfort during treatment is ok. If massaging is very uncomfortable then avoid it. Visit your dentist regularly to check progress of your treatment. Anti inflammatory tablet will help if pain is more
