Diarreha for four months

Hi, I have been expereincing diarrea for the last few months i took stool samples and blood tests only that came up was high white blood cells. Dr. Wants me to take a colonoscopy. I am a 29 year old male. Is that a typical path to take. They say that want to see if I have collitis.
