Hi, my son is 25 months old now. He is about 12.2 kgs now and birth weight is 3.6kgs. He is very much active. For the past 3 months (after a stomach flu) he is not gaining weight properly. Should I give deworming medicine? If yes, please advise the medicine and dosage. Last year June I gave him bandy plus 5ml and 5ml with 15 days gap as suggested by his paediatrician. Should it be given again?

Your baby weight is appropriate for his age. Generally baby gains weight as 1.5-2.5kg per year for 2-5yrs that is 150-200gm per month.
If baby is feeding well, active playful and development milestones are age appropriate, no need to worry.
Next Steps
yes deworming can be done after 2yrs of age.
SYP CANTEL (ALBENDAZOLE 200MG/5ML) 10ML HS STAT AND REPEAT AFTER 10-14 DAYS.
At 25 months, 12.2 kg is generally within acceptable range if he is active and otherwise healthy. After a stomach infection, appetite and weight gain can temporarily slow for few weeks to months.
Routine deworming can be given after 1 year of age in many children, especially if due since long time. Since last deworming was almost a year back, you may discuss repeat deworming with your pediatrician. Commonly used medicine is albendazole.
For 2 years age, usual dose is:
• Albendazole 400 mg single dose (for example Bandy Plus suspension 10 ml single dose, depending on formulation)
Nowadays repeat dose after 2 weeks is usually advised only in selected cases (suspected pinworm/reinfestation), not routinely for every child.
Also focus on:
• Protein-rich diet (milk, curd, paneer, egg, dal, nuts if tolerated)
• Regular meal/snack schedule
• Monitoring height and weight on growth chart rather than only weight alone
If poor weight gain continues, appetite is low, stools are abnormal, or there is recurrent illness, then pediatric evaluation may be needed to look for dietary deficiency, anemia, gut issues etc.
Weight is appropriate for age . No need to worry about.
Give Syp Zentel /bandy (200mg/5ml ) 10 ml at bed time. repeat second dose of zentel or bandy 10 ml after 21 days
Hi. At 25 months and 12.2 kg, weight is generally within acceptable range if height and activity are normal.
If deworming was last done in June last year, repeat deworming can be considered now. Commonly used option is Albendazole suspension as per age/weight, but I would suggest giving it only after confirming there are no other reasons for poor weight gain.
Next Steps
If weight has truly plateaued for 3 months, growth assessment may be more useful than only repeating deworming.
Health Tips
Since reduced weight gain started after stomach flu, please also observe:
• Current appetite
• Stool pattern (loose / bulky stools)
• Height gain
• Any recurrent illness
At 25 months, weight 12.2 kg is generally appropriate (around normal percentile)
Regarding deworming:
Yes, routine deworming can be given at this age if not done recently.
Preferred: Albendazole 400 mg single dose (usually 10 mL if using 200 mg/5 mL suspension) once.
Can be repeated every 6 months in endemic areas / as per local practice.
Red flags for evaluation: weight loss, chronic diarrhea, poor appetite, abdominal pain, pallor, developmental concerns.
