Dental gum growth tissue
My mother, age 45, has been complaining of swelling in her gum for about one month. We visited a dentist, and he said there is some extra tissue growth with color change on the gum. She has no history of tobacco, smoking, gutka, or alcohol use, and there is no ulcer or bleeding. The dentist prescribed antibiotics and a cream for now. He also mentioned that if it does not improve, he may remove the tissue and send it for biopsy. Because of this, we are very worried and would like proper evaluation and guidance.

Hey hi, please don't worry or get scared about the word "biopsy." Since there is no history of tobacco or smoking, and no ulcer or bleeding, this extra tissue growth is most likely just a harmless, benign swelling (like an epulis or inflammatory hyperplasia). These frequently happen due to minor local irritation, like sharp tooth edges or food lodgement. A biopsy is just a routine, standard dental habit to double-check the exact tissue type before clearing it completely.
Next Steps
Complete the antibiotic course as prescribed by your dentist. If the swelling doesn't reduce, getting it safely removed and tested is a very simple, routine procedure.
Health Tips
Just Maintain clean oral hygiene.
