A mother who is CMV IgG positive can breastfeed her baby if the baby is full term and healthy. However, babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy (premature) or weighing less than 1.5 kg may be more likely to get sick.

Babies born before 30 weeks of pregnancy and/or that weigh less than 1500g may have a higher chance of getting sick from CMV through breast milk .
