Hepatitis B virus remains latent in liver and doesn't cause any harm in many. Treatment is not required in this stage. Patient just need to monitor lft 6monthly and viral load 1-2yearly. However, it can get reactivated in later stage, usually after 40 yrs of age and can cause problem. It is in this stage that treatment is required. Indication for treatment include altered lft and fibrosis(plus some grey zone indications). Once antivirals are started its advisable to continue for long duration. What is important for you is to get vaccinated for self and check anti hbs titre after vaccination. Till your anti hbs titre are protective you should use condoms while having physical relationship. I hope this answers ur question.
