I have constant burning pain in the lower jaw under ear and side of the neck since may. Went to dentist and he told that I might have a fracture in lower first molar and told me to extract. I went to Endodontist and he couldn't see any fracture and told me to do RCT and crown. I did rct 2 months back. Did temp crown ten days back and sore pain in that tooth and gum since then. Getting permanent crown this week. I still have the same burning pain in lower jaw and neck. Went to neurologist and he told me it might be nerve pain and put me on carbamazepine 200mg half tablet a day. I am taking this tablet for last 4 days. I am having the permanent crown procedure tomorrow. Is it ok to take anesthesia numb shot while taking the nerve medicine? It could be either novacaine or licodaine. I am not sure which one he gives for the numb shots. Is it ok to take anesthesia shot while taking the nerve medicines? Any inputs please.
Is it ok to get the anesthesia numb shot while taking this medicine?

No issue as such. But anyways no anesthesia will be required for crown cementation.
There is a decent possibility that the pain u had can be
1) Nurological in origin
2)Assosiated with the tempromandible joint
3)Dental origin
Dental origin looks unlikely coz u are saying the pain is persistent after RCT.
Carbamezapine will help in such cases. Localization of nerve involving trigeminal neuralgia can be performed by anasthetizing the specific nerve and see if the pain persists. Nevertheless, treatment still would be carbamezapine.
I would also recommend to get your tempromandible joint and occlusion evaluated by an Oral surgeon(For TMJ) and occulution (By a prosthodontist).
I would recommend you to visit a research based facily with better diagnostic Infrastructure, preferably a good dental college(Which has a medical college attached to it) for such a non conclusive case.

If you have a temporary crown and have pain in the treated tooth, you can wait to get the permanent crown until pain reduces.
You wont require numbing injections for fixing the crown.
There are usually no problems in giving local anesthetic with carbamazepine. But do inform your dentist and talk about your fears
