Can trichomonas be treated?

My friend is a 35 year old female, married. She is into corporate sitting job. She has been diagnosed with trichomonas. We wanted to know can this be treated? Does the treatment give a permanent result or can it reoccur? Also, is this a very serious infection that I should worry about?
