Can a dog lick cause rabies
Yesterday a dog licked my friends mouth. My friend has no cuts or wounds in his mouth. My question is if dog licks a mucous membrane but the mucous membrane is healthy and intact and there are no cuts and open wounds, then, can it cause rabies?

If the oral mucosa is completely healthy and intact (no cuts, ulcers, or bleeding gums), then the risk of rabies transmission is extremely low to negligible. • Rabies usually requires a portal of entry (wound, abrasion, or compromised mucosa). • Intact mucous membrane is a natural barrier — saliva simply touching healthy tissue generally does not cause infection
Next Steps
Not typically required in this scenario, but if there is any doubt about unnoticed cuts or if the dog’s rabies vaccination status is unknown, consult a doctor for official advice.

First of all the cuts, break in skin is considered risky if comes in contact with animals saliva Mucous membranes means it has very thin covering means rabies virus can transmit through mucus membrane direclty, no cut, wound needed in mucus membrane And if someone’s mucus membrane is exposed to animals saliva means category 2 exposure- treatment is to get vaccinated asap

Yes. I don't think there can be any person who is  sure that there is no cut or injury on the mucous membrane in the mouth.

A dogs saliva contains the rabies virus , but as such it cannot enter your blood stream unless there is a cut over your skin. So if there was any cuts present where the dog licked, there is a significant chance the virus gets transmitted.

Usually presence of intact membrane has very low risk for spread of rabies. If it is a domestic, vaccinated dog, u can avoid the vaccine. But if it's a street dog, better to get vaccinated
