Probable cause (based on history & image):
A small dark red/black bump inside the upper mouth is most commonly a blood blister / traumatic hematoma—often due to accidental biting, hot food, or minor injury. It can also be a dilated blood vessel (oral varix). These are usually benign.
What you should do now:
• Avoid touching or bursting it
• Maintain good oral hygiene
• Rinse with lukewarm salt water 2–3 times daily
• Avoid very hot, spicy, or hard foods for a few days
When to worry / see a dentist immediately:
• If it does not reduce in 7–10 days
• If it increases in size, becomes painful, or bleeds repeatedly
• If there is ulceration, hardening, or color change
• If you use tobacco or have recurrent similar lesions
Bottom line:
Most such lesions heal on their own. If it persists beyond a week or causes concern, a clinical oral examination is recommended .
Did you have any trauma?
It looks like a normal blood clot that might have occurred unknowingly
There is nothing to worry
But look out if in case it increases
Hello,
It looks like a small blood clot or bruise due to minor trauma (biting, hot food, etc.). Usually nothing serious and settles on its own in a few days.
If it increases in size, bleeds, or doesn’t go away in 10–14 days, please get it checked in person.
Take care.
