Breast abscess surgery during breastfeed
I underwent a breast abscess surgical incision and drainage 4 days back. Wound is left open. Milk leaks through this but reducing. Since the incision is in aerolar region, i can't pump , direct feed or hand express either. As of now breast doesn't feel heavy, but if this continues will i have engorgement again? Also how long will it require for the wound to heal so as to start direct feed?

Less likely to have an engorgement if the abcess has been drained properly. Wound will take time to heal. Atleast 8-10 days depending on the size of the wound and the depth
Next Steps
Consult your doctor and have a follow up

Please continue your follow up with the surgeons concerned. It will take time for healing. If it has been adequately drained then engorgement should not happen. If u feel breast is engorged try hot fomentation and expressing the milk. After 8-10 days only u will be able to feed again mostly
