Hi Doctors,
My baby was born on 32nd week of gestation and was in NICU for a month. Now the baby is one and a half month of age and current weight is 2.55 kgs.
Our doctor has told us to feed the baby only through paladai, the baby was taking it fine but from couple of days is not appropriately taking the feed from palda. We are only giving breast milk.
My question is
1. Can we give baby feed via bottle, since baby relucting in taking feed from palada?
2. Would bottle feeding impact breast feeding?

If your baby is having difficulties with Paladai feeding, please see if other issues are not there. Like nose block. Or maybe the baby has learnt to latch and suck adequately from the breast and hence getting irritable when Paladai is tried. Preterm babies gradually develop Good suck so this might be the perfect time when your baby has effectively learnt the art ( post birth he is 6 weeks which means he is about 38 weeks if he had been inside, a perfect term baby who are very good at breastfeeding)
1. Breastfeed as much as possible
2. Introducing bottle feeds causes nipple confusion in the baby following which they reject breastfeeds and come to be dependent on bottle feeds
3. Don't do forceful feeding. Identify soft signs like opening of mouth frequently, baby searching the breast for feeding ....this is the moment you have to feed the baby.
4. Consult your pediatrician for weight assessment and physical examination.iIf everything is fine, you can just continue with breastfeeding
Best wishes
