Your 24-hour ambulatory BP (ABPM) shows an average of 131/83, which falls in the borderline or pre-hypertensive range, not severe hypertension. ABPM is more reliable than a single digital reading at home. The 131/100 reading on a digital machine could be due to anxiety, poor sleep, wrong cuff size, posture, or timing. Your main issue seems to be anxiety with racing thoughts and poor sleep, which itself can temporarily raise BP readings. Lack of sleep activates the sympathetic system, causing higher diastolic (lower number) readings.
Next Steps
You can follow your doctor’s advice and wait for the 1-month review, but take these steps now: For BP monitoring • Check BP twice daily (morning and evening) • Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring • Take 2 readings and note the average • Avoid caffeine, stress, or exercise 30 minutes before checking If diastolic BP stays above 95–100 consistently for 5–7 days, consult earlier. For anxiety and sleep You may consider short-term help: • Melatonin 3 mg at night for sleep (safe, non-habit forming) • OR mild anti-anxiety options like: • Magnesium glycinate at night • Ashwagandha extract once daily If sleep remains very poor, your doctor may prescribe a short course of anti-anxiety or sleep medication.
Health Tips
• Fixed sleep time: go to bed and wake up at the same time daily • Avoid screens 1 hour before bed • Warm shower or light stretching before sleep • Reduce caffeine after 2 PM • Practice 4-7-8 breathing or guided relaxation before sleeping • Regular 30–45 minutes of walking helps both BP and anxiety ⸻ Your BP numbers are not in the dangerous range right now, but your sleep and anxiety need attention. If you’d like, you can book a quick online consultation so we can stabilize your sleep and BP together before your follow-up visit.
