Blood In Stool
My son is having blood in stool everyday from past 15 days. Consulted pediatric and was given anti biotic suggesting stomach infection. Even after taking anti biotic the blood continues to come with stool. Now consulted gastroenterologist he had manual check up and told there's a possibility of polyp and asked us to get colonoscopy. We are afraid is is serious problem and require surgery, please advise.

Bleeding causes are many, you have not given your sons age etc., your surgeon may be correct and other causes of bleeding should be thought of,like piles / fissure etc.
Avoid spicy food, apply coconut oil at bed time and Seitz bath ( sitting in a basin of betadine lotion for 10 to 15 mts after passing motion and washing the area.

Colonic polyps are the polyps most commonly found in children and yes they do bleed (blood in stools) and they are mostly beningn.So please dont worry .Go ahead with the colonoscopy.

Hi. If the bleeding hasn't yet stopped, there are chances that it could be either a fissure in the anal region, or it could be a haemorrhoid.
I suggest that you do visit your gastroenterologist and proceed with the colonoscopy, so that we would know what is causing the bleeding.
Among other causes could also be manual injuries to the anal region. This is common in children who are in the age to have worms, and who scratch the area when it itches. If your son is not in that age, please ignore this paragraph.
