Bitten by a rat?
Hi Doctor. Yesterday evening, I felt a sharp pain in my left foot. We have some rats in our showroom and I immediately feared that a rat might have bitten me. I did not feel any pain after the incident, no blood. There is this small wound as seen in the picture. I am not sure if it is a rat bite. Please guide me as to what is to be done. Thank you.

Hi, just get examined once by a physician. Rat bites may need just local care, a TT injection, a antirabies vaccine based on chance of getting infected and antihistaminic. Also better to vaccinate others in the house also. Getting rid of rats by pest control also helps

It could be due to some insect bite also which is more likely but not sure. In doubt you can take antirabies prophylaxis vaccination which will protect you from all future possible rabies due to any infected warm blooded animal bite such as dog, monkey, rabbit or rat etc. For insect bite you can take some antihistaminic such as Avil or cetrizine. But consult a physician personally before deciding anything.
