Sudden weaning from breast feeding to formula feeding would be difficult for your child to get used to because the child doesn't self wean until 1 year and above. It would be advisable to gradually decrease the length and frequency of nursing(breast feeding sessions) sessions and giving formula feeds in between(both milk can be given depending on how your child tolerates it). His nursing strike is most likely due to the change in his regular routine, don't worry this is usually temporary and continuing the regular routine and slowly bringing in changes to the routine would be the most advisable way to go forth.
