Baby son.
Age- 6 months.
Weight- 6.2kg
My baby was having cough and 101.4 fever yesterday. We tool him to pediatric doctor in evening. They gave medicines. They told to give 3 ml pcm if baby has fever else not. We gave 3 ml pcm at 8 pm. It relieved for sometime. But at 1-2 am in night, fever and cough worsened and he was having 102.5 fever. We gave him 3 ml pcm again at 2-30 am. Then it relieved for sometime and he is again having high fever at 8 am.
Should we keep giving pcm after every 6 hours if fever comes? Does it happen usually. Should we visit to doctor again?

Depends on if baby is active during afebrile period
Than we generally think of viral infection
And continue pcm every 4 to 6 hours
If baby is lethargic or if symptoms persist beyond 72 hours we should rule out any bacterial infection or pneumonia like symptoms

For fever you can give PCM every 6 hourly. Do tepid sponging when fever is high grade. If any sign like lethargy, difficulty in breathing, reduced urine output kindly consult doctor
Paracetamol is given 4-6 hourly. You can give it every 4 hourly for 2 days, only the total daily frequency should not be more than 5 in 24 hours
If the fever still spikes in between you may do sponging - wipe the baby with normal tap water ( temperature not fridge cold) - head to toe
Next Steps
Keep the baby well hydrated - good breast feeding
Health Tips
In case fever is not coming down in next 3 days visit again
Watch out for decreased feeding, lethargy, respiratory symptoms
Yes you can repeat pcm 6 hourly whenever temparature rises. Considering its only day 2 of illnes expect improvement in 24-48 hours. If the baby's condition worsens or lethargy, refusal to feed develops, consider consulting the Paediatrician again.
