An arachnoid cyst is, in simple terms, a thickening of one of the brain's coverings - the arachnoid mater - and this thickening then trapping some of the brain's own cerebro-spinal fluid within it. The vast majority of them are small and do not cause a problem. Rarely, due to their size or location, can cause compression and pressure on some delicate areas of the brain. The CP angle and cerebello medullary cistern is a delicate area, but unless we know the size of it, or even better, can see the actual pictures, it would be difficult to comment with confidence whether it needs anything doing. Does he have any neurological problems like walking difficulty, balance issues or swallowing problems?
Next Steps
Ideally consult a (paediatric) Neurosurgeon for advice.
