Acute pancreatitis
My dad diagnosed with Acute pancreatitis it's been 5days now . He suffered with severe stomach pain and undergone serum amylase lipase tests , first day amylase was 850 u/l and it has become 217 . Doctors sent my dad home and prescribed few medicines . I would like to know what is this condition and how serious it could be kindly help me .i can provide all the reports. Need an expert advice .

Hi, we need to Define the cause of pancreatitis , most common being Gall stone induced, secondly Alcohol induced , others - Drug induced / Chronic kidney disease. Etc. There is nowhere indication to check Amylase/ Lipase level daily as these are enzymes which are supportive marker of pancreatitis and does not indicate severity. these will invariably come down each day ( enzymes decay). Important is to DEFINE THE CAUSE TREAT THAT / C.T SCAN OF ABDOMEN TO DEFINE THE DAMAGE AND ASSOCIATED ORGAN DAMAGE
