Hyperthyroidism Graves (most common) – Inc T3, Inc T4, goiter, ophthalmology. Toxic multinodular goiter – later in life, no eye problems. SX – nervous, sweating, feet hot, tachy/palpitations, weight loss, inc appetite, goiter, tremor, atrial fib. PE – heart (tachy), eyes (exopthalmos).
Next Steps
DX – • TSH/FT4 (Dec TSH, Inc FT4). • CBC, CMP, EKG.
Health Tips
TX – • Methimazole in adults, 5-15mg PO QD. • Propylthiouracil in elderly, pregnant, those w/ cardiac disease.
